Created by people with eating disorders!
People don’t seem to understand that this isn’t about weight. The thing is though, it doesn’t help to keep talking about weight and appearance!
Here are some things you shouldn’t say:
*You look so much healthier!
*You look like you gained some weight. Good job!
*You look like you’ve lost weight.
*You look like a lollipop/bobble head- big head small body!
*Did you eat? You have to eat ___ calories a day, at least.
*You should weigh between __ and __.
*You should weigh more.
*You should weigh less.
*You’re not that heavy.
*You’re not that skinny.
*You don’t look sick.
*You don’t look that bad.
*That girl is so skinny, she probably has an eating disorder…so sad.
*You’re skinner than she is.
*She is skinnier than you.
*That makes you look fat.
*You look like a holocaust victim.
*That girl is so thin, I wish I could look like her.
*You aren’t fat, you’re normal.
*You aren’t too skinny, you’re normal.
*Just eat and you’ll be fine!
Some of these may be repetitive, but overall, the big picture is: don’t compare him/her to others; don’t talk about weight; don’t focus on appearance; don’t try to be a doctor. Be a friend. Be supportive. I think the best thing you can do is listen…then there’s no risk of you saying these things anyway. :)
